Debbie is an accomplished HR Consultant with over 25 years’ experience gained within public, private and not for profit sectors operating in both a front line and senior management capacity. She has worked within a broad range of industries including local government, manufacturing, professional services and sports and leisure.

Debbie firmly believes that people are central to business success, as unresolved problems or difficult situations impact negatively on teamworking, performance, attitudes, productivity and ultimately customer service and profits. Debbie’s commercial understanding, pragmatism, attention to detail, and clear communication enables her to gain a sound understanding of a situation from all perspectives. She is not afraid to ask courageous questions to establish the facts and clarify not only what has occurred, but also why it happened. Debbie provides clear, objective, balanced feedback reports which enables clients to smoothly navigate their way to making informed decisions, mitigate risk and identify outcomes that wherever possible maintain positive working relationships and encourage accountability.

Debbie recognises that investigations can be stressful for all concerned. She ensures her friendly approach encourages participation and honest conversation and leaves individuals feeling reassured that a fair process has been followed. To date her advice has not resulted in any Tribunal Claims. Debbie has considerable experience in conducting workplace investigations which have included:

  • Disciplinary investigations ranging from non-contentious misconduct to complex Gross Misconduct situations resulting in dismissals
  • Sensitive employee grievances involving allegations of health and safety breaches, management failings or unfair workplace practices
  • Allegations of bullying and sexual harassment including concerns relating to discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and disability
  • Work related stress factors (including one case involving attempted suicide)
  • Capability concerns relating to job performance or ill health/disability factors
  • ‘Counter claims’ running combined investigations under both disciplinary and grievance processes.

Debbie is an accredited Workplace Mediator and Conflict Coach, she is certified in the Conflict Dynamics Profile model of conflict coaching, has a Masters’ Degree in Management and holds the professional CIPD Level 7 Post Graduate qualification. She is a Chartered Member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). During 2017-2019 Debbie was a Non-Executive Board Member for the Somerset Chamber of Commerce.

When not working Debbie enjoys spending quality family time with her husband and young son. Living beside the sea Debbie regularly visits the beach as well as walking in the countryside. Camping holidays and cinema trips are a firm favourite and when relaxing can often be found with her kindle engrossed in a good crime thriller or fantasy novel!

Conflict Coaching – Shareholder/Director dispute

Agreement could not be reached to enter into mediation in this situation and therefore coaching was an alternative support provided to one of the parties. The relationship between a majority shareholder and a shareholder/director was causing conflict. The relationship would be ok at times but disagreements would flare up from time to time and this was beginning to impact on the business.
